The blocking of YouTube, MySpace and more in Turkey
Farmville's when you have locked that has a nonsense. The Turkish ISP run by the newly formed Telecommunications Communication Presidency (TIB), blocked all access to this application from within Turkey. Of course they were not particularly concerned by blocking access to Facebook virtual farm, was an accidental result of blocking access to the creators Farmville – Zynga. The company is considered unacceptable Zynga because they produced some poker games and applications.
There are an estimated 6000 + web sites now blocked in Turkey, for a variety of reasons ranging from piracy, pornography, religion and morality. Last month two other social network communities Turks were blocked, the reason they were gays and lesbians. Youtube it was blocked by some videos which were released on their website making fun of Kemal Ataturk the founder of modern Turkey.
It is in my opinion, why Internet should never be censored, by all means and the arrest of criminals and clearly about illegal content, but when one single organization decides to control what a nation can be viewed online with security can not be democratic.
It's happening all over the world, from the growing list of black Web sites blocked in Australia, the Great Firewall of China known to the Thai government trying to block anything that is critical of the Thai royal family. All via the Internet, more and more governments are control or monitoring what we do online.
If you want to control what people think or what it says people over the social networking sites are a very bad idea. After all these sites are designed specifically for sharing thoughts, experiences and opinions – But what happens when a particular state decides not like to be specific opinion?
I am sure that Kemal Ataturk would have been horrified learn what the TIB are up now. There is a growing intolerance shown in many different areas of the Turkish government inparticular to what people see and do, thank God there are thousands of ways around censorship!
